Seattle's New Chinatown Gate

Seattle's New Chinatown Gate

began in 2002 when members of the community got together to form a non-profit organization for its construction. It is similar to many Chinatown gates across the country, but it's origins go back to ancient China where gates mark the entrances to large cities, often times granted by the Emperor himself. Construction of this $500,000 gate began in 2006 and was unveiled February 9, 2008 with a massive lion dance performance in conjunction with the Lunar New Year celebration.
